JOHN HUNTER AND THE BOOK OF TUT SLOT REVIEW
For slots fanatics, Novomatic’s Book of Ra has rightfully taken its place amongst the pantheon of the very best high variance games out there. It’s simple high risk gameplay set the standard for a lot of slots that came after and it has been the inspiration for many game studios that followed in Novomatic’s footsteps with their own Indiana Jones-type hero-figures seeking treasures amid Ancient Egyptian reel sets, peppered with scarab beetles and mystery symbols. Even BTG have got in on the act with their own Book of Gods game. Perhaps one of the best examples though has come in Pragmatic Play’s own Book of Series, led by the dashing character of John Hunter who has lived through the Book of Mystery as well as the Aztec and Da Vinci’s Treasures, before landing here at the Book of Tut. This simple but brutal game is once again set in the Egyptian deserts and brings the fun with a free spins round packed with expanding symbols and an enhanced pay table. GAME SET-UP, SYMBOLS AND GRAPHICS
Like many classics, Book of Tut’s 5×3 reel set sits in front of a golden desert scene with palm trees, the Nile and pyramids inevitably catching the eye. This simple set up makes way for low value symbols made up of cards 10 through to Ace. The premium symbols meanwhile are the scarab beetle, a cat, King Tut, and of course John Hunter. Our hero is the most valuable at 500x for five on a payline.
And finally there is the Book symbol which works as both a Scatter and a Wild in this game – five on a line will get you a 200x payout, whilst 3 landing simultaneously anywhere on the reels gets you into the bonus round.
JOHN HUNTER AND THE BOOK OF TUT SLOT RTP, VARIANCE AND PAYOUTS
As we already know, Book of Tut is a seriously high variance game. That means high risk slots players will love it (when it goes their way) whilst casual slotters should run a mile! This game is very simple with one route to glory – through the free spins round. The RTP comes in at 96.5% and the top payout is set at a pretty decent 5,000x (though it doesn’t keep with BTG’s bonkers Megaways™ collection), and with all this in mind, don’t set your stake too high or you burn your balance in no time. Play starts at 10p per spin.
GAMEPLAY AND FEATURES
SCATTERS, FREE SPINS AND STACKS
Ok, let’s just tell it how it is – there is only one feature here and that is the free spins round, triggered by landing three or more Book scatters / wilds. Of course, landing 5 on the payline also adds a big win to the excitement when the bonus is triggered, but the main game here is 10 free spins.
When the round begins, a book opens up in front of the reels to reveal one symbol from the paytable that will expand to a full reel height if it lands after a winning spin. This special symbol now no longer follows the normal pay out rules. Instead, as long as there are three or more ANYWHERE on the reels a payout is triggered.
Landing three or more book symbols in the bonus round will trigger another 10 spins and there is no limit to how many times this can happen.
IF John Hunter is the special symbol then the top payout of 5,000x is available.
There is nothing new to report here – Book of Tut is exactly what you would expect, and is in fact very close to being an exact replica of the original Book of Ra from Novomatic. For those who love high variance games that tease for a long time before they suddenly explode into life, this is a corker. No frills, no fancy features, just good old fashioned, high risk gaming set against the classic backdrop of the Egyptian deserts. And it’s all done magnificently by Pragmatic Play.
